Summer Struggles Part 1: Obstacles

Have you ever noticed that heath, fitness, and nutrition kinda go to sh*t over the summer?

The next 100 days (end of May to early September) are big months for weight gain.

Rivaled only by the holiday weight gain from Halloween to New Years.

Why is this?

Couple factors come into play.

For me personally the kids being out of school throws the daily routine completely out of whack.

With the sun being out longer, kids are up later. Which translates into parents staying up later (in a feeble attempt to wind down).

Kids do sleep in over the summer, but this just feeds the “staying up later monster”.

No school and a different sleep schedule significantly alter the daily routine.

In addition to the daily routine being off, a lot of travel and social events pop up.

To name a few:

Vacations
Graduation Celebrations (high school & college)
Parties and BBQ’s
Pool outings
Camping
Holidays:
Memorial Day
Fathers Day
4th of July
Labor Day
…and the list goes on.

Point being, there are a lot of opportunities for nutrition to take a back seat, while crap food and booze take the steering wheel.

Add in missed workout sessions and you can start to see why the next 100 days can do some damage on the scale.

What can you do to combat the Summer Struggle?

Tune in tomorrow for Summer Struggles Part 2: Solutions
